My Ol' Lady

In addition to robbing the cradle, my wife (on the left) appears to be a bigger Bears fan than I.

Well, Google you very much, too!

How often do you Google your own name?

I'm actually second when you google "Ben Wilcox"---at least, my blog is.

Is this a new status system?

I guess this thread is pretty sad, huh?

Wow. What is going on?

So, I've filled in as a substitute small group leader for middle school guys twice in the past month. You know, it's not as scary as I thought it might be. I like that they are accepting of me, and I try to let them know that it's really THEIR group: I'm just a visitor. It's an honor to be able to do this, and I've had a lot of fun both times. I hope I get more chances to sit in with these students. They are awesome, and they help to confirm my belief that there is no such thing as a "bad kid." They are all good kids--until some adult(s) screws them up.
Anyway, thanks, God, for letting me into their world a little bit. I don't know what you are doing in my life, but it's cool. A little frightening--but mostly cool.
Keep me humble, OK?
Love, Benny

Caring for children

I've had a lot of great opportunities to serve children of divorce in the past two years. How odd that one of the groups I help facilitate is hosted by the church I attended when MY parents divorced. I've gone from being quite scared of children to excited about seeing these little people on a regular basis. I'm very honored and grateful to God for keeping me safe all these years so that I can now give back and care for children in distress.

Bring the pain!

I threw down 10 pancakes today at IHOP. Beat that, and I'll send you a prize . . .

I'm trying to read and do some quiet time today. I finished reading Starving Jesus. I dare you to read it if you consider yourself a Christian, and if you are not a Christian, try reading it for entertainment value as the authors call the American Church out on the carpet.

My biggest take-away from the book is, "When confronted with an uncomfortable truth, how will I choose to respond?"

From one President to another

Dear Mr. Bush,

"I think that people want peace so much that one of these days government had better get out of their way and let them have it."

____

I seem to be picking fights with those I love/respect the most. "What they hey!?!" (As my hopefully-still-my-friend-after-last-night friend would say). I think I do this to test whether or not these people whom I treasure have unconditional love for me. I think I am trying to see whether or not they will still love me even when I am a dickhead. I don't like this behavior of mine. I want it to cease immediately---if not sooner.

Oh, well. It just sucks. Michigan and the Rose Bowl: Groundhog Day for me. Great year, flawed ranking system, too much time off, and a sh*t game plan. At least they beat Notre Dame . . .
